O'ahu Accommodations | O'ahu Beaches | O'ahu Golf | O'ahu Dining | O'ahu Site Seeing | O'ahu Activities

If I thought that hotels represented a "target-rich" environment on O'ahu, then restaurants represent a freakin' "Gastronomical Dream Come True" for those who like to chow down.  In my years I have never met a meal I didn't like, and O'ahu must be experienced to be believed in this area.  As you can imagine, there are literally thousands of restaurants on O'ahu, and here are some thoughts on the ones we have visited first-hand.  Enjoy and we look forward to reading your comments about your favorite dining places!

Puka Dog

waikikipukadog

Just like its parent store on Kaua’i, the Honolulu Puka Dog is a great way to enjoy an American favorite…the hot dog. They serve up big ‘dogs in special, “purpose made” buns with a hole in the middle vice a slot for the ‘dog. And lots of local, Hawaiian type condiments…

Kona Brewing Company

Yes, it’s a “marina bar” and yes, the fare is burgers, fries and the like. But….. This ain’t no ordinary brew pub schlepping fries on the side. First, like so many other Hawaiian businesses, the setting is really pretty, in the Koko Marina in Hawai’i Kai, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out to the east on Kalaniana’ole Highway. Secondly, the food is quite good and the beer…

Indigo

indigo

We first came acros Indigo in 1999 when I accompanied my wife on a business trip to Honolulu. (You don’t think I was going to sit home while she went to Hawaii, do you????!) We met a colleague there for a drink but did not stay for dinner, which started a 10-year odyssey for me to get back there for a…

Lulu’s Waikīkī

lulu's

Part of the fun of this place is that I still don’t even know its right name! Even on their own website they are listed variably as LULUs, LuLu’s and Lu Lu’s, but it doesn’t matter—this place (not too many years ago a Denny’s) is a wonderful Waikīkī institution that should be enjoyed every…

Aunty Pasto’s

auntypastos

I know, I know…not many people go to Hawai’i to eat pasta. I guess that makes me “special,” for I love pasta. Pure and simple, I love spaghetti, lasagna, rigatoni, maccaroni, even “My Little Pony” (hey, it rhymes…) and meat sauce. So when we saw Aunty Pasto’s on a random drive-by, I talked my wife into going in. Good idea! These people…

Phuket Thai Restaurants

phuketthai

These two restaurants are perfect examples of why it’s good to have smart friends in beautiful places! We have been to these two restaurants a number of times at the behest of my wife’s business colleagues, and boy, are they smart and we lucky! I love Thai food and these two restaurants

Duc’s Bistro

We ate at Duc’s Bistro in December, 2009 at the recommendation of a neighbor who grew up in Honolulu and who was familiar with it. Great recommendation! I’ts a quiet but elegantly pretty little place in the “lei district” of downtown Honolulu. We had a wonderful meal and great experience, but even more wonderful was our meeting and talking to the owner, Duc…

Keoni by Keo’s

Keoni

Owned by the same family as Keo’s and the “little sister” to Keo’s, we are totally amazed at the difference in these two restaurants. We last visited Keoni’s in December 2009 and were totally disappointed. The restaurant had just re-opened after remodeling (within a few days) and the overall experience was not…

Keo’s

Keos

We first discovered Keo’s (pronounced Kay-oh’s, not Kee-oh’s, by the way) in the mid 1980s when we were stationed in Pearl Harbor. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve been there and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time. Keo’s is a Thai restaurant and the setting, the décor the wonderful…

Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Restaurants

The two best meals we’ve ever had on O’ahu were both at Roy’s in Hawai’i Kai. (I specify “Hawai’i Kai” because there are I think 6 other Roy’s on the island. I do not mean to slight the others, as we’ve never been to any of them, but if the Roy’s in Hawai’i Kai is any indication, they are all fantastic.) Our first meal there was in December 2003; our daughters treated us to dinner there for our…
