Makana Peak

Meaning “gift,” Makana peak is another stand-out from the movie “South Pacific” where it is identified as “Bali Hai.”  Hawaiian legend holds that ancient Hawaiians would climb the mountain and throw burning spears off of it, to arch across the sky, eventually landing in the water.   Drive North on the 56 38 miles through Kapa’a, Kilauea, Princeville, Hanalei, and Haena to the end of the road (Ke’e Beach). Makana Peak is directly above you. For an alternate view, drive North on the 560 37.5 miles to Limahuli Gardens.
